New Year New Me

This blog is not exactly about making New Year's Resolutions. As you can see my first blog is being posted on Jan. 22nd. My Epiphany (which oddly enough my birthday is on the Feast of the Epiphany) came this week when I was laid up sick in bed.
Last year was not a good year. I won't go into details because then I will get 500 responses of ,"you think that was bad listen to this!" This year (all three weeks of it ) had not started too badly. Then Came the Flu. I went to bed Monday night knowing that there was not something right with my body. I woke up at 4:00AM with the answer; a case of the Stomach Flu. So there I am in bed dying, it is snowing outside and my husband is saying "good-bye" as he is on his way to the airport on a business trip to Atlanta. Our kids are all on their own now, so for the next three days it was to be me, the two dogs and a cat who would gladly see me dead. The next two days were a wash. I slept, threw up and walked the dogs; that is all I remember. By Thursday I was able to make it to the couch and turn on my laptop. I love going on Amazon and looking for books and things I might buy someday.
I came across Gretchen Rubin's book, The Happiness Project. Her publisher offered two chapters for me to read and then I went on Gretchen's website. This is what I needed to do. I was not going to go through the year comparing things as to whether they were better or worse than my January bout of the flu. My ideas are still formulating but I knew I had to blog about it to help keep me on the straight and narrow.
